Treatment

A stone medicine treatment session or "sacred stroke" is gentle bodywork similar to a massage with the client lying down on a massage table and draped with sheet and blanket. Heated and chilled stones are moved and placed on the client's body to achieve deep relaxation and balance, soften muscle tissue and reduce swelling and inflammation.
Also known as geothermal therapy, the treatment is individualized to address the specific needs of the client, and may include aromatherapy with essential oils or the smoke of sage and sweetgrass, sound healing with drum, water or rattle, and time to reflect together after the treatment.

Healing Hands, a hands-on healing practice similar to Reiki, can also be incorporated into a session or be the sole focus of a treatment session.

Each treatment session is chosen and individualized to address the specific needs of the client.
Stone Medicine seeks to treat the client, not as a fragmented, but a whole person with a spirit, body, heart and mind.

Lineage
The Stone Medicine wellness practice I offer is taught by Jenny Ray, who was trained in her family's traditions. Her family, the Thompson Family, is part of the Bear Clan, in the Stone Walkers Society, from the Santee People of the Dakota Tribe of the Sioux Nation.
Jenny and her father Chas (Charles) Thompson worked tirelessly with Tribal councils of the Pine Ridge Reservation as well as an Inter-tribal council, to decide what specific parts of this tradition could be shared in the modern world and how it could be taught to non-Native people.
I have had the privilege of studying with Jenny Ray in her home state of Washington and with those she has trained as trainers of this tradition at Cedar Stone School of Massage in Harrisonburg, VA. The 15 month program I completed in 2019 prepared me to be a Certified Stone Walker.
